They will be planning sessions for the WMEA conference next year. We are invited to attend or to send ideas and infor to either John Straehle or Bruce Caldwell. Groups that wish to perform at the conference must send tapes by June.

III. Old Business
a. Meagan reported that we have recieved a nice Thank You note for our donation to SEAF.
b. Don is going to scan it and put it on the website.

IV. New Business
a. Don reported on a concern that the state may be requiring more Math and Science classes for HS graduation. There was a discussion on the possible negative influence that this may have on our music programs. Don suggested that our organization make a statement on how being involved in HS music programs has influenced our lives and our students' lives. We don't our students squeezed out of music programs because of new required classes.
b. 2005-2006 events:
i. Adjudications:
HS Band Contest is March 14 hosted by Scott Goransen at Davis HS. There was discussion about having our string ensembles participate in the Columbia Basin String Contest or setting up a half day String Contest of our own. Megan will get dates on the Columbia Basin event.
HS Choir is Wed., April 12 at Davis HS and hosted by Roger Stansbury.
MS Band Contest is Thurs, March 16 at Highland HS, hosted by John Straehle. John commented on his administration being concerned about our students being in the cafeteria area and mixing with Highland students during lunch. Our students must be kept out of that area.
MS Choir Contest is Friday, April 14. Ron Gerhardstein will host.
Choral Bash is not scheduled
ii. Inservices:
The following suggestions were made:
Debbie Montegue or Kip Hubbard for a World Drumming workshop
Elem. Winter Program reading session: preferably in late August
Dr. Tim and or Mel Clayton instrumental music workshop (Scott will check)
Anne Rene from OSPI (Don will check)
Bethel School Dist. arts speaker
Choral Reading session: Sept. 22 at 6 pm at Lewis & Clark. (MS & HS)
iii. State Convention is Feb. 16-20 in Yakima
iv. Solo & Ensemble Contest is Feb. 4 at CWU. Bart will host. Some issues of concern from this year's contest were double reeds and keeping on schedule in some rooms. Some students are going over their alloted time. It was stated that we need to communicate clearly to participants that they will not be docked points for "cutting" movement to stay within the time limits. Performance time will be limited to 7 minutes. Bart also intends to try to get more judges from other places than CWU. This may raise costs. Bob E. voiced a concern that the Clarinet room should not be carpeted. Forms are due at the Winter YVMEA meeting on January 10th at 6 pm.
c. Other:
i. Doug Seigal from Goldendale reported on the Honor Band in the Gorge area and its need for funding. Bart made a motion to support the Gorge Honor Groups as requested by donating $353.17 to supplement cost this year. Ron seconded and motion passed.
ii. Doug Kilgore presented a possible fundraiser through Ted Brown music. They had "music is our future" wristbands that can be sold for $2.00 each and making a $1.00 profit. Ted Brown is also selling these in their stores and profits stay in the area to support local music activities.
iii. The Fall YVMEA meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 12 at 6 pm at Rich's home. The exec. board will meet at 5:15 pm. Rich motioned that YVMEA buy the meat and that other members bring potluck items (salad, dessert). Don seconded and the motion passed.
iv. Don requested that we send in our favorite pieces to be posted on the website to recommend to others. He also suggested we send him our concert repertoire quarterly and possibly performance dates that will also be listed on the site.

V. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:40 p.m.
