Reese, Ron Gerhardtstein, Don May, Dave Walters, Doug Kilgore, Bill
Bean, Kathleen Kiesel-Nield, Ed Cunnington, Vivian Wheeler, Bart Roderick,
Fanny Buckly, Jeff Chapman, Angela Goude, Tammy Springer, Michael Brant,
Mary Duran, John Straehle (i apologize for errors).
II. Reports
a. Treasurer's report: we have a current balance of $6500. Rich reported
that a good thing was that every school paid for everything last year.
b. In-service report: there was a Choral Reading in-service on Nov.
17. Six-seven directors brought their 'top 10 hits' to share. The
group sight-read and shared. They earned clock hours for their participation.
c. Honor band/choir went well.
III. Old Business
a. Bruce and Jo Caldwell did a presentatio on "WMEA-SEAF".
SEAF stands for Student Event Annual Funds and is an organization organized
to raise funds to help defray the cost of student participation in events
such as ALL-STATE and possibly other regional Festivals. YVMEA voted
to donate $500 to this fund (Bart moved, and Bill seconded). The organizations
name will be changed to Young Musician's Fund in either June or July.
b. Banners were discussed. The previous plan to get banners through
an Ellensburg business proved too expensive. Banners were only ordered
for H.S. Choral Contest last year. Scott volunteered to check on students
at Davis possibly producing the banners. Bill volunteered to do research
to find a cost effective source. Will we do banners this year? We will
decide at the Spring meeting.
IV. New Business
a. Eric Ryan of Puyallup sent Megan an email with questions regarding
how the new Science requirements might be affecting our school districts'
music programs. People working with grades 6-9 who are willing to reply
can either contact Megan to have the questions forwarded to them or
can contact Eric directly at "eryan@puyallup.k12.wa.us"
b. Bart reported that Solo & Ensemble contest is going ok. He has
a new scheduler this year. Contest will be in the new Hertz Building
at CWU in Ellensburg. We will be using about 12-13 classrooms. He still
needs to check on piano tuning (apparently Harry Whittaker has been
doing this for free for the past several years. The judges list is available
from Bart. All registrations must be in by Saturday 1/8/05. Please have
money to him by Monday. Checks are preferred. Both Bart and Don will
appreciate any feedback you may have regarding the website. Bart hopes
that we will have an on-line registration for next year.
c. Junior All-State packets should have arrived. If you need one, Megan
can forward one to you. Bruce says it should also be on-line at the
WMEA site. (There are errors in the Alto Sax audition part: it should
be chromatic. Bruce says they will probably accept it both ways.)
V. The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 p.m. The next meeting is April
26, 2005 at Shari's off of 40th Ave. Board meeting is 5:15 and General
meeting is 6:00 p.m. Following adjournment we were invited to meet with
other instructors to come up with other in-service ideas. Please send
these suggestions to Megan.
