Minutes from the YVMEA Meeting on Sept. 11, 2001
The proposed board officers for the next term to be elected were read.
Rich Reese questioned the proceedures of who got on the list and how just to make sure everything was proper and fair. Discussion proceeded that list was formulated at Spring meeting at which few attended. We then discussed when officersare supposed to be elected and how. Most of the time it has been difficult to fill positions.


Officers are for the 2001-2002 school year.
Spring of 2003 we will have and election or proposal for new officers. Officers to check WMEA site to edit their info. Move to accept list by Kristie Baisinger and seconded by Brian Long, motion passed
WVMEA State Convention in Yakima in Feb. 2002
Members of YVMEA are to elect a "Friend of Music Award" and an "Outstanding Music Educator Award" from our group/area.

Ed Cunnington suggested nominations be sent to him by October 1st - then sent to the board for approval. The awards will be presented in February at one of the concert hours during the convention.


YVMEA Regional Honor Groups
Nov. 5th at East Valley High School
Jeremy Friese and Joan of Naches High School are the chairs. Send student recommendations (10% of group) to Jeremy and Joan by Sept. 28.
WSU's Don Hower will be the Guest Band Conductor and WSU's Lori Wiest will be the Choral Conductor. There was a proposal to pick our own music for the Honor groups. Groups to select 7 to 10 pieces to present to guest conductors
Jim Sleater to chair the band music committee
Bart Rodrick to chair the choir committe
Proposal Charge of $10 per student participating in Honor groups
Motioned by Dave Walters, seconded by Rissa Eggleston, motion approved.

Solo/Ensemble
Slated for Saturday, Feb. 9th in Ellensburg
Chair: Ed Cunnington (only because it needed to be filled - Thanks Ed!)
Although Ed, Bart, and Rusty potentially may organize together
Site Chairs: Don May and Gay Ott.
$500.00 Stipend to Chair

$15 Flat Fee for ANY entrant
Also - Entrant forms and fees DUE of January 11, 2002
Don May suggested purchasing File-Maker Pro for organization of Solo/Ensemble contest.

Rusty Shed proposed a Yakima Youth Wind Ensemble to be on Sundays, starting in Jan., at Davis High School.

possible exceptional 8th graders
directors rotated for pieces

All State Screening is open to all WMEA Members
Nov. 3 - 9 AM until finished at Bellerman Prep in Tacoma
